3rd John

11From: the elder TO: the well-beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

2Beloved I [pray] above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. 3When the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even (that) you walk in truth, I rejoiced greatly. 4I have no greater joy than hearing my children walk in truth. 5Beloved, whatever you do to brethren and strangers you do faithfully, 6(brethren and strangers) have borne witness of your LOVE before the church; whom, [having sent forth] on their journey [being worthy of God] you will do well, 7Because for His name's sake they went forth, taking nothing [from] the [unbelievers]. 8So we should receive such that we might be fellow helpers to the truth.

9I wrote to the church but Diotrephes, who loves to have the pre-eminence (loves to be first) among them, didn't receive us. 10So, if I come I will remember his deeds (behavior), (using)[empty; spouting] malicious words against us; and not content with that he doesn't receive the brethren and forbids those that would, and casts them out of the church (if they do).

11Beloved, (don't) follow (this wicked example) which is evil but (follow that) which is good. He that does good is of God, he that does evil has not seen God.

12Demetrus has a good report (by) all men and of the truth itself; yes, we also bear witness and you know that our witness is true.

13I had many things to write but I won't (use) ink and pen to write you, 14but (hope to) shortly see you and we will talk (in person). Peace be to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
