3rd John

1¹From: the elder TO: the well-beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

²Beloved I [pray] above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. ³When the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even (that) you walk in truth, I rejoiced greatly. ⁴I have no greater joy than hearing my children walk in truth. ⁵Beloved, whatever you do to brethren and strangers you do faithfully, ⁶(brethren and strangers) have borne witness of your LOVE before the church; whom, [having sent forth] on their journey [being worthy of God] you will do well, ⁷Because for His name's sake they went forth, taking nothing [from] the [unbelievers]. ⁸So we should receive such that we might be fellow helpers to the truth.

⁹I wrote to the church but Diotrephes, who loves to have the pre-eminence (loves to be first) among them, didn't receive us. ¹⁰So, if I come I will remember his deeds (behavior), (using)[empty; spouting] malicious words against us; and not content with that he doesn't receive the brethren and forbids those that would, and casts them out of the church (if they do).

¹¹Beloved, (don't) follow (this wicked example) which is evil but (follow that) which is good. He that does good is of God, he that does evil has not seen God.

¹²Demetrus has a good report (by) all men and of the truth itself; yes, we also bear witness and you know that our witness is true.

¹³I had many things to write but I won't (use) ink and pen to write you, ¹⁴but (hope to) shortly see you and we will talk (in person). Peace be to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
