Paraphrased
Dear Beloved of Galatia,1:2a
[Our love] to you and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins that He might deliver us from this present evil age according to the will of God, our Father, to Him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.1:3-8
[I'm surprised] that you're so easily led astray from the gospel of Christ to believe a perverted version of His gospel. If a man, or even an angel, brings any other words to you, other than these of Jesus Christ, let him be accursed.1:6-9
Do we seek the favor of men or God? Do we seek to please men? If I do, then I'm not a servant of Christ. However, brethren, I declare to you that the gospel which was preached by me, didn't come from man, for I didn't get it from men but from Jesus Christ, who revealed it unto me.1:10-12
I persecuted and ravaged (greek) the Jews and their religion. Being a zealot of my father's traditions, in times past, but it pleased God, my creator, to call me by HIS grace; and to 'reveal' His Son 'in' me, that I might (share) Him among the Gentiles. I went immediately into the ministry by going to the Arabs. I didn't confer (or ask any man's opinion or permission) nor did I go to the apostles in Jerusalem. I then returned to Damascus and after 3 years went to Jerusalem to see Peter and stayed with him 15 days. The only other apostle I saw was James, the Lord's brother.1:13-19
These things I'm writing to you, [discern clearly and take heed](Greek), before God, I do not lie. I came to the regions of Syria and Cilicia to the christian churches of Judea, where no one knew what I looked like but my fame had preceded me. They knew of my past persecution of the Jews and that I was now sharing the gospel I'd once tried to destroy and they glorified God because of the repentance in my life (Acts 11:18).1:20-24
Fourteen years later I went with Barnabus and Titus to Jerusalem. Jesus revealed to me that I should go and share the gospel. I was also to speak privately with with the apostles and elders [about the false teaching of being circumcised to receive salvation, Acts 13:1-4 holding forth the word of life (truth) Phil. 2:16] that Titus, being Greek wasn't compelled to be circumcised and that false brethren, coming in unawares, to spy on our freedom in Christ, so that they might bring us back under bondage [to false traditions and laws].2:1-4
| Note: Being circumcised, just another ploy of the enemy to convince christians that they must do something to get saved, worthy of, work toward, etc. Salvation is a free gift by God's grace. Period. |
Did we give place by submission, no, not for an hour, that you'd continue to have the true gospel. Act 15:7-11. But of those who [are in authority in the church], don't matter to me; God does not [show favoritism] (Acts 10:34), and they imposed nothing to me [no new requirements]. On the contrary when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcised (Gentiles) was committed to me, just as the gospel of the circumcised (Jews) was committed to Peter. (When James, Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave their [agreement] for us to go to the Gentiles and they to the Jews). They only asked that we remember the poor and I was diligent to do so. 2:5-10
When Peter came to Antioch I opposed him to his face because he was at fault. He [kept company] with the Gentiles until certain men came from James and at this point Peter withdrew and separated himself from the Gentiles fearing those who believed in circumcision. Then the other Jews dissembled also, to the point where even Barnabas became involved in their hypocrisy. When I saw they didn't walk uprightly, according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter, in the presence of everyone, "If you, a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like a Jew, why do you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?" [We, who are by nature, God's children and not graffed in Gentiles] know that a man is not justified by the works of the law but rather by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have accepted this, that NO flesh is justified by the works of the law.
If we, being Jews, seek justification by faith in Christ, (all have sinned) and take our place, be we Jews or Gentiles, as sinners seeking justification and knowing the law has failed to justify any, the the Jew who calls the Gentiles sinners will find himself a sinner also. Was Christ the minister of sin or salvation?
Under the law I'm dead, so I can live unto God. [Through Christ's Grace I am saved]. My flesh died with Christ and yet I live, but not really the old me but a new me because Christ lives in me. The life I now live in my flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and sacrificed Himself for me. I don't [nullify] the grace of God, for if we can be saved by obedience to the law, then Christ died for nothing. 2:11-21
