Hebrews Chapter 10-13
101The law, (being a pattern) of good things to come and not the (fact or reality) of the things to come, can never make those who come to it (whole), (even) with those sacrifices they offered continually year by year. 2Because wouldn't they then have stopped being offered? Because the worshipers once (cleansed) shouldn't have sin on their conscience. 3However, in those sacrifices (sins were brought back into rememberence) again, year after year. 4It is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin.
5So, when He came into the world he said, "Sacrifices and offerings you would not, but a body you have prepared me; 6in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure. 7Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the Book it is written of me) to do Thy will, O God." (Ps 40:68). 8Above, (in verse 5 and 6), when He said, "Sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and offerings for sin you wouldn't, nor had pleasure in them," (those) offered by the law. 9Then said He, "Lo I come to do your will, O God." He takes away the first (so) He can establish the second; 10by which, (God's) will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (sin). 11Every priest stands daily ministering and offering the same sacrifices (over and over) which can never take away sin; 12But, (Jesus), after He'd offered one sacrifice for sins, for eternity, sat down on the right hand of God, 13from (now on)(in expectation, waiting) till His enemies be made His footstool. 14(Because) by this one offering He has forever (completed) them that are sanctified. 15And the Holy Spirit is a witness to us; for after He'd said before, 16"This is the covenant (contract) I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law into their HEARTS and in their minds will I write them, 17and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more, 18now where (a complete pardon) of these is, there is no more (need of) offering for sin."
19So, (beloved) have boldness to enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20by the new and living way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, (meaning) His flesh, 21and (now) having a High Priest over the (family) of God, 22let us draw near (Him) with a true HEART, in full assurance of faith, having our HEARTS sprinkled fro an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering (for He is faithful that promised), 24and lets consider (each other) and [stimulate] each other to LOVE and good behavior, 25not [deserting] our fellow Christians, as is the [custom] of some, but [encourage] each other, (especially), as you see the day (Jesus is coming) approaching. 26For if we [refuse to believe] willfully after we've received the knowledge of the truth, their remains no (other) sacrifice for (unbelief), (it is Christs sacrifice or none) 27but a certain fearful [expectation] of judgment and a fiery indignation (hateful angry contempt, disgust), which will devour the adversaries. 28He that despised Moses law died without mercy under 2 or 3 witnesses; 29how much sorer punishment do you suppose he will (deserve) who has treated (contemptuously) the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which He was crucified, and unholy thing and has [insulted] the Spirit of grace? 30(Because) we know Him that said, "Vengence belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord." And again, "The Lord will judge His people." (Duet.32:35-36). 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God. 32Remember the former days, when after you were (enlightened), you endured a great fight of [persecutions], 33partly when you made (were exhibited in the theatre) both by (censure) and (persecution) and partly by becoming companions of (those that this happened to). 34For you had compassion on me in my imprisonment and (accepted) joyfully the (stealing of your possessions), knowing (with)in yourselves that you have a better and enduring (possession) in heaven. 35(So) don't cast away your (boldness and courage under persecution) which has great recompense of reward. 36(Because) you have (long length) of patience that you might receive the promise after you've done the will of God. 37(Because) (in just) a little while, He that shall come, will come and will not tarry. 38Now the just will live by faith but if any man draws back (into unbelief) my soul will have no pleasure in him. 39(However) we are not of them who draw back (into unbelief) to [destruction] but of those that believe to the saving of the soul.
111Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2By (faith) the elders received a good report. 3Through faith we understand that the ages were planned by the Word of God, so that things which are seen (arose out of invisible things).
4By faith Abel offered unto God a more (valuable) sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous (Gen 4:3-5), God was witness of his gifts; and being dead yet speaks (through the written word of God). 5By faith Enoch was translated that he shouldn't see death and was not found, because God had translated him (Gen.5:22-24); and his testimony before he was translated was that he pleased God. 6Without faith it is impossible to please Him; (because) he that comes to God must believe that He is (God) and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
7By faith, Noah, being warned of God of things not yet seen, moved (with reverant regard), prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by (faith) announcing the destruction of the world and became heir of the righteous which is by faith. 8By faith Abraham obeyed and left the places he was called to go out of without knowing where he was going, afterward received it for an inheritance. 9By faith (Abraham) journeyed to the land of promise into a strange country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10For he looked (forwarded to the heavenly Jerusalem) a city (having) foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11Also, Sarah, herself, through faith received strength to conceive (seed) and was delivered of a child when she was past the (season) of age because she judged Him faithful who promised. 12There sprang (from this) seed one (child) and (Abrahams)(body which was) as good as dead (Ro.4:19), children as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and the sand by the seashore which is innumerable. 13These all died in faith, having not received the promises but having seen them afar off, and (believed) them, embraced them, and confessed (stated) that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14(Saying this) for the (purpose of making) a clear declaration that they seek a country. 15And truly if they'd (remembered) the country they came out of, they might have made away to return. 16(However) they now desire a better country, a heavenly one, so, god is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
17By faith, Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac; he that had received the promise offered up his own son, 18to whom it was said, "In Isaac shall your (Abraham's) seed be called"; 19(reckoning by faith) God was able to raise him up even from the dead, which (faith) he also received him (symbolically).
20By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning (their future). 21By faith Jacob, when he was dying blessed both the sons of Joseph and worshiped; leaning upon the top of his staff. (Hebrew word here for staff also is the same word for bed). 22By faith Joseph, when he was dying, (confirmed) the departing of the children of Israel and gave (instructions) concerning his bones. 23Bu faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden 3 months by his parents, unafraid of the King's (mandate) and seeing Moses was a beautiful child (believed by faith someone would find him floating in the river). (Ex.1:22-2:6).
24By faith, Moses, (having become of age) refused to be called the son of Pharoah's daughter, 25choosing (instead) to suffer affliction with the people of God, than have (temporary) enjoyment of the pleasures that (lead to death). 26(Valuing more highly) the reproach of Christ (as) greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; (because) he (looked) to the recompense of the reward. 27By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the King; for endured, as seeing Him who is (by faith). 28Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, that (the destroyer) of the first born shouldn't touch them. 29By faith they passed through the Red Sea, as though walking on dry land, which the Egyptians, attempted to do, and drowned. 30By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after being surrounded 7 days. 31By faith, Rahab, the harlot, didn't perish with the unbelievers, when she received the spies with peace.
32And what more can I say? Not having enough time to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and of the prophets, 33who, through faith, subdued kingdoms, (produced) righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made stron, became valiant in fight, and turned to flight armies of invaders. 35Women received their dead raised to life again, others were tortured not (denying their faith) that they might obtain a better (life in heaven): 36others had (piercing experiences) of cruel mockings and scourgings (stoned), yes, even more of bonds and imprisonment; 37they were stoned, sawed in two, tested, slain with the sword; wandered about in sheep and goat skins, destitute, afflicted, tormented, 38(of whom the world was not worthy); they wandered in deserts, mountains, dens and caves of the earth. 39And all these having received (a good report) through (their) faith, received not the promise (of His coming). 40God having provided a better thing for us (His Son), that those (from times before) should not be (brought to completion) without us. (All creation awaits the divine event).
121So, seeing we're also surrounded with a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside the (burden of unbelief) which does so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who, for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising shame, and is sitting down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3(Reasonably) consider Him (who) endured such a contradiction of sinners against Him (in opposing Christ (they) were enemies of their own souls) [in case] you (become) weary and (irrational). 4You haven't (shed your blood) in your (struggles and efforts) against sin. 5And you've forgotten the (appeal; argument) which [reasons] (with) you like children, "My son, don't despise the (correction; tutoring; education; training) of the Lord, nor (loose hope; become despondent; depressed) when He (corrects) you; 6Because the Lord (raises up a child; corrects; educates) who He loves and (severely corrects) every son He receives". (Prov.3:11-12). 7If you endure (correction; education) God deals with you as sons; for what father doesn't (raise up; correct; educate) his son? 8However, if you are without (correction; education), of which all are partakers, then you are bastards and not (God's) sons. 9(Besides) we've had fathers of our flesh (here on earth) who (train; teach; instruct) us and we give them [respect] (shouldn't) we be even more subject (to the rule) of the Father of spirits and live? 10(Because)(our earthly fathers) for a (short time)(raise; educate) us after what pleased them, but [our Heavenly Father] for our (benefit) that we might be partakers of His holiness. 11Now, no (tutorage; training; education) (while it is happening) seems joyous, but rather (hard to be borne); (but) afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who've (undergone patiently the discipline of suffering). 12(So)("put your hand to the plow" so to speak) and (stop your) knees shaking; 13and make a (clear) path for your feet, (so you won't stumble and halt) but rather (walk a smooth path without pit falls). 14Follow (the path of) peace with all men and holiness, without which no man will see the Lord; 15Diligently (watchful) in case any man (fall and harden his heart) and become bitter and defile the family of God; 16(or)(in case) there are fornicators (idol worshipers or sexual deviants) or [pledge breakers; desecraters] like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. 17(As) you know, afterward, when would have in herited the blessing, he was rejected; (because) he had no (conscience; remorse; regret) though he (questioned) it carefully with tears. (Gen.27:34-41).
>>>>Note: Mt Sinai (the law) and Mt Zion (the gospel) in the following verses<<<<
18(Because) you aren't come to the (law)(groping) and (kindled) with fire nor to darkness, (gloom of death) or (boiling turmoil), 19and the (voice of rumor or report), which the hearers entreated should no longer be spoken to them. 20(Because) they couldn't endure that which was commanded. And if so much as a beast (lay hands on and desecrate) the (law), it will be stoned or thrust through with a spear. 21And so terrible was (it made to appear) that Moses said, "I exceedingly fear and quake". 22But you are come to (the gospel; good news) and the city of the Living God, the Heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innummerable company of angels. 23To the general assembly (of angels) and church of the first-born (the redeemed), who are written in heaven, and to God, the judge of all and to the spirits of just men made (complete), 24and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks of better things than that of Abel.
| Note: Blood speaks, as Abel's cried out from the ground to God for vengance; the voice of of Christ's blood calls for mercy and forgiveness. |
25See that you don't refuse Him that speaks. (Because) if those who refused Him didn't escape (after being warned by those) on the earth, (what chance have) we of escaping, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven, 26(and) whose voice shook the earth; (however) now He has promised, saying, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but heaven also." 27And (these) words, "Yet once more", signifies things that God created that can be shaken will be removed, but those things that cannot be shaken will remain (spiritual and eternal). 28(So) receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God (being well pleasing) with reverence (respect) and (apprehensive of the danger); 29(Because) our God is a consuming fire. (His anger burns hot and furious against those who reject His Son and all God offers).
131Let brotherly LOVE (unite; hold together). 2Don't forget to (be hospitable) to strangers; (because) some of the hospitable have entertained angels (without knowing it). 3Remember those that are (imprisioned for their faith) as though you were (imprisoned) with them; and those who are (evilly treated) as though you too were suffering it bodily. 4Marriage should be held in honor an is precious, but sexual deviants and adulterers God will judge. 5Let you (moral disposition and character) be without (greedy; grasping; craving) and be content with what you have; for He has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you". 6So that we may boldly say, "The Lord is my helper and I will not fear what men will do to me". 7Remember who leads you, who's spoken to you the (true) word of God, (imitate their) faith, considering what awaits them at the end of their lives. 8Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever. 9Be not (deceived) with various and strange doctrines (because) it is a good thing that the HEART be established with grace, and not with (ceremonial observances) which haven't benefited them that have been occupied with them.
10We have an alter (Jesus Christ) of which they have no right (to partake) who serve (the old covenant). 11Because the bodies of the (sacrificed) [animals] whose blood was brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin (were) burned outside the camp (or city). 12Jesus too, suffered outside the gate so that He might sanctify the people with His own blood. 13Let us go out to Him, outside the camp, bearing His (disgrace; dishonor; rebuke)(of religious zealots and unbelievers). 14We have no longer a (religious center) here on the earth, but seek the (heavenly Jerusalem) to come.
15So, by [Jesus Christ] let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, (meaning) the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. 16(And) to do (what is right) and not forget to share (Jesus) with the poor (in spirit). God is well pleased with such sacrifices.
17Obey those that have rule over you and submit yourselves; (because) they watch over your souls, as (though you were their responsibility) and do it joyfully and not with (groanings); (because) that won't (benefit) you. 18Pray for us; because we (faithfully believe) we have a good conscience, in all things will to live (in the truth). 19I (implore) you to do this so I might be restored to you all that much sooner.
20Now the God of peace, who raised our lord Jesus Christ from the dead, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21make (all of) you (whole and fitted to do the perfect will of God) in every good thing, working in (us) that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. 22And I (beg) you, (brothers and sisters)(don't become impatient)(with the advice) I've written (in this short) letter.
23Our brother Timothy is set at liberty (and) if he comes shortly I will see you with him. 24Greet all your (spiritual leaders) and the saints. Those in Italy greet you. 25Grace be with you all. Amen.
