Galatians Chapter 1

We are going to do just this one chapter and by the time we come to the end I pray you will be able to continue through the Bible, just you and the Holy Spirit, and you will grow in Him.

Some of the questions will seem hard but it isn't the answer we are after but how you 'search' for them!

Galatians Chapter 1

Verse 1. Who was Paul? What is an apostle? Why does it stipulate Paul was not an apostle of men but of God, what would be the difference?

Verse 2. Who are the brethren? Look up Brethren in the Greek and in the dictionary. If you have a Bible Atlas find Galatia on it, what is the city closest to it?

Verse 3. Grace, as you know, if you read the first page, is a word study all by itself, but for now (if you haven't just studied it) look it up in the Greek and in an old dictionary and in a word origins book. Peace, another word study when you have time, look up peace in the Greek; dictionary; work origins. Now re-read the verse again.

Verse 4. What does the small and common word "gave" mean in this verse? If you have a numbered concordance with Greek and Hebrew, look it up in the Greek. Some translations of the Bible use the word "age" in place of the King James Version "world". Why do you think God used the word "world"? Or was it miss translated from the Greek? Does this verse say why Jesus sacrificed himself to deliver us?

Verse 5. Glory. What does this word mean in this verse? How long exactly is forever..think on it.

Verse 6. What is the gospel? (Matt.28:6; Gal.1:1; Mark 16:15-18). How can there be another? (1 Corinth.16:22). What constitutes "another" gospel? (If you are using a study Bible with notes in the margin, follow the study notes/verses and comments). Paul marveled "that ye are so soon removed", what did he mean?

Verse 7. In the case of Galatia it was NOT "another" (Acts 4:12), what does Paul mean? Do a short word study on "pervert".

Verse 8. What does Paul say about those who "pervert" the gospel? Who is "we"? Are we to listen to a gospel brought by angels? If not, why not?

Verse 9. Why did Paul repeat verse 8 again? What is the Greek meaning here for the word "accursed"?

Verse 10. What does "seek favor of" mean? Look up the word "please".

Verse 11/12. What is Paul trying to make clear to the Galatians, and us? Notice the little word "by" and look it up in your "old" dictionary. What is the Greek meaning in this verse for "Revelation" OF Jesus Christ? Note: Always read the little words carefully for they point to the truth and can be a 'revelation' in themselves. A good example would be Matthew 24:24 take special notice of the word "IF".

Verse 13. Paul refers to the story of his life. Do you know his story? Did you know that his name was Saul before he became a Christian? (Acts 7:58-8:3; 9:1-31; 22:28-29). He refers here to his 'religion', do you know what his religion was?

Verse 14. He was 'zealous' in his religion and traditions of his fathers, look up the meaning of zealous, tradition and religion in the Greek.

Verse 15/16. There is another little word in verse 16, 'in', look it up in an 'old' dictionary. Why the Gentiles, Paul was Jew? What does Paul mean, "he didn't confer" with "flesh and blood"?

Verse 17. What is important in this verse? What is Paul saying here?

Verse 18. What was Paul doing during these 3 years?

Verse 19. How many apostles besides Peter did Paul visit with?

Verse 20. Paul is making a 'vow' here. Have you studied the importance of vows? (Numbers 30).

Verse 21. Look for Syria and Cilicia on your Bible atlas.

Verse 22. What do you think Paul means 'unknown by face'?

Verse 23. Do you think this verse signifies the importance of a reputation?

Verse 24. "Glorified God 'in' Paul". What do you think that means?

As you might imagine, I have to have an entire table top to study the Bible. I'm up to 3 tables in my home, the kitchen table, dinette table and my study table (the biggest table). It is covered with open books, stacks of notes, paper and pens. I love to study! To search for all that God has for me to learn and understand. May you find as many joy-filled and enlightening hours as I have through the years. Blessings.
