Philippians

11Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ.
To: all the Saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.

2Grace and peace to you from God, our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3I thank God on [all my] rememberance of you, 4In every prayer of mine for you, always making requests with joy, 5for your fellowship in the (furtherance of the) gospel from the beginning to now. 6(Since I am) confident of this very thing: that He who has begun a good work in you will (continue) to perform it till the day of Jesus Christ; 7(Because) it's right for me to think this of all of you, since I have you in my heart, (in view of this fact), both in my bonds and in the defense (of) and (to) confirm the gospel, you are all partakers (with me) of grace. 8(As) God is my witness (of) how greatly I longed after you all in the tender mercies of Jesus Christ. 9And this I pray, that your love may abound (still) more and more in knowledge and in all [discernment]; 10that you may [prove] things that are (the more) excellent [way]; so you will be sincere and without offense (not stumbling or causing others to sttumble) tell the day of Christ, 11being filled with the fruits of righteousness (fairness of acts and character), which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

12I'd like you to understand, brethren, that the things which happened to me have not hindered but rather have furthered the gospel, 13so that my bonds (became) manifest in Christ [throughtout the whole praetorian guard] and (to everyone else); 14and many of the brethren in the Lord, becoming confident by my bonds, speak the word more boldly without fear. 15Indeed, some even preach Christ (while jealous of my influence) and (are quarrelsome and prejudiced toward me) and some also of goodwill (toward me); 16One preaching Christ of contention, not sincerely, hoping to add affliction to my bonds; 17but the other, of love, knowing I'm appointed for the defense of the gospel. 18So, how does this affect me? Christ being (is being) preached (in) every way, whether in pretense or truth, and in that do I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.

19Through your prayers and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, I know that this will turn to my salvation. 20[In the same way] my intense expectation and hope that I will not be ashamed in anything but, as always, with all boldness, will magnify Christ in my body whether it be by life or by death. 21(Because) to me to live is Christ and to die is to (gain; win; increase; benefit; advance). 22If I'm alive this is the fruit of my labor, yet what I would choose I don't know. 23Because I'm [pressed] between the two, a desire to leave and be with Christ, which would be the better (choice). 24However to (remain) in the flesh is more [necessary] for you. 25And, having this confidence, I know I will (remain and carry on) with all of you for your (advancement) and joy of faith, 26that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ (in) my coming to you again. 27(Regardless) of whether or not I come and see you, let your conduct be (worthy) of the gospel of Christ, that I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast (hold the line just as an army does) in one spirit and in one mind [seeking jointly] for the faith of the gospel; 28never fearing your adversaries, them that (bring)[formal indictment](accuse)(because) (that's) evidence, a [sign] of perdition but to you, (a sign of) the salvation of God. 29Because to you it is given, on Christ's behalf, not just to believe on Him but to suffer (endure the same wrongs) for His sake, 30having the same striving which you saw in me and now hear (concerning my imprisonment).

21So, if there's to be any consolation in Christ, any comfort of LOVE, any fellowship of the Spirit, any tender mercies and compassions, 2(complete) my joy and be [of one accord] having the same LOVE being of one mind. 3Let nothing be done through strife and (selfish ambition) but in [humility] of mind let each (value; respect; prize) others better than themselves. 4Don't only be attentive to your own things but things of other also.

5Have the same mind as Christ Jesus, 6who, being in the form of God, (didn't count it as a prize) to be equal with God, 7on the contrary, (He became emptied) and took on the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men; 8And, (His outer appearance) fashioned (after) men, He humbled Himself and became obedient (to the extent of laying down His life) even the death of (offense and shame).

9(For this reason) God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, things in heaven, things in the earth, things under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father.

12(So), my beloved, since you always obeyed (not only when I'm with you but alsow when I'm not there), work out your own salvation (studying the word John 6:27) with fear (this 'fear' is self-distrust; tenderness of conscience; watchful against temptation) and trembling. 13Because it is God who works in you [the willing and the doing] of His good pleasure. 14So do all things without murmurings (constant whining and complaining) and disputings (questions and doubting), 15(to become) blameless (in the site of others) and harmless (without guile in your own hearts) children of God, [without blemish] in the midst of a [crooked and twisted] nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16[presenting, offering] the word of life so that I may rejoice in the of Christ and (haven't) run or labored for [nothing}.

17Yes and if I be [poured out][ at] the sacrifice and service of your faith (your sacrifice unto God), I joy and rejoice with you all. 18For the same reason you to joy with me. 19But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly to you, that I too may be comforted when I know your state. 20For I have no man like-minded, who will naturally care for your state. 21But you know his (Timothy's)(reputation) that he has served with me in the gospel as a son with (his) father. 23I hope to send him presently, as soon as I see how it will go with me. 24But, I trust in the Lord that I too will come shortly. 25(However), I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow soldier and companion in labor, your messenger, and the one who ministered to my need. 26He longs after all of you and was full of heaviness because you had heard that he was sick. 27And, indeed, he was sick, he nearly died but God had mercy on him; and not just on him but me also lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28So, I eagerly sent him so that when you see him again you may rejoice and that I will be less sorrowful. 29So, receive him in the Lord with all gladness and hold him in great [value], 30Because, for the work of Christ, he nearly died, not regarding his life, that which is lacking in your service toward me.

31Finally, my (beloved), rejoice in the Lord. To (repeat) myself in the things I write to you isn't irksome but it is for your safety. 2Beware, (the) dogs (unholy; profane), evil workers, beware of the (mutilators of the flesh Lev.21:5). 3For we are the (believers) who worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus, having no confidence in the flesh. 4Though I, (too), might even have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinks he has reasons for trusting in the flesh, I (have) more: 5circumcised at 8 days old, of the (original) stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin (not a lost tribe), a Hebrew of Hebrew (parents); as (pertaining to) the righteousness whichin the (Mosiac) law, a Pharisee; 6[ironically] with zeal persecuting the church; (found) blameless, (pertaining) to the self-righteousness which is in the (Mosaic) law. 7However, whatever things I would (count) as gain for me, I now count as a loss (forfeit) for Christ. 8Yes, [therefore] I count all things (a) loss (forfeit) for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord; I have suffered the loss of all things for Him and do count them as (rotting) refuse (so) that I may win (gain) Christ. 9And to be found in Him, not having my own righteousness (self-righteous), which is (by) the law, but (rather) the righteousness which is of God by faith, which is through faith (in) Jesus Christ. 10(So) I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made (able to) conform (because of) His death, 11If by any means I might attain the resurrection of the dead. 12(It's) not as though I had already attained (nor) already perfected; (however) I follow after that I may apprehend (as well as pursue) for which I'm also (pursued) of Christ Jesus. 13(Beloved) I don't count myself to have (obtained); but the one thing I do, forgetting the (past) and reach for the things of the (future), 14I press (on) toward the (goal) of (eternal life) the high calling of God in Jesus Christ. 15So, let us, as many as [have perfected their walk; grown old in their walk with Jesus], be so minded, (forgetting the past and pressing forward) and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, God will reveal even this to you. 16Nevertheless (concerning) that which we've already attained, let us walk by the same rule and let us mind the same thing.

17(Beloved) be followers together of my (leading); using us for an example; and mark those who walk so. 18((Because) many walk, of whom I've told you often, and now tell you, even [through my tears], that they are enemies of the cross of Christ. 19Whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, who (care more) for earthly things and whose glory is in their shame.)

20Our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also look (to) the Saviors (return), the Lord Jesus christ, 21who will change our lowly (weak and dying) body, so it will be fashioned like His glorious body, according to the working (of His power) even to [bring all things under himself (in a new heaven and new earth).

41So, my dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and my crown, my brethren, stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. 2I beseech Eudia and Syntche (possible deaconesses among the Christians at Philippi) that they be of the same mind in the Lord. 3And I entreat you also, true yoke-fellow, help those women who (were fellow combatants) with me in the gospel, Clement and other fellow workers whose names are in the book of life.

4Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say, rejoice. 5Let your [gentle patience] be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6Do not be anxious, but in everything let your requests be known to God, by prayers and supplication (earnest, humble prayer) with thanksgiving. 7And the peace of God, which passes all understanding will [guard] your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8Finally, beloved, whatever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report; if there be any virtue and praise, think on these things. 9Do those things you've learned, received, heard and seen in me and the God of peace will be with you.

10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now, at last, [you caused your thoughts on my behalf to flourish anew]; of which you were also (thoughtful) but you lacked opportunity. 11I don't mean in the respect of want; for I've learned in whatever state I am, to be content. 12I know both how to be abased (humbled) and to abound (exist in plenty or abundance); everywhere in all things, I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, to abound and to suffer need. 13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 14(Although) you have done well that you did share with my affliction. 15Now Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church but yours shared with me (in) giving and receiving. 16Even in Thessalonica you once sent (a contribution) and again to my (needs). 17Not that I desire a gift but I desire that fruit be (credited) to your account. 18I have all and abound. I'm full having received of Epaphroditus the things sent from you, [faith, trust] acceptable sacrifice well pleasing to God. 19And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

20Now unto God and our Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 21Greet every [Christian] in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. 1All the saints greet you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household. 23The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
