2nd Timothy
11From: Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2To: Timothy, my dearly beloved son:
Grace, mercy and peace from God, the Father and Jesus Christ, our Lord.
3I thank God, whom I serve, (as did) my forefathers, with (a) pure conscience, that I pray for you without ceasing, day and night. 4Greatly [longing] to see you, that I might be filled with joy (and), remembering your tears (at our last parting) 5(and) being reminded (of your) [sincere] faith [having a believing] grandmother, Lois, and believing mother, Eunice, I'm persuaded [of your sincere faith]. 6(So) I'm reminding you to stir up the gift of God which is in you by the laying on of hands. 7(Because) God hasn't given us the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. 8(So) don't be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me (being) a prisoner but you be partaker (with me and others) who are afflicted (for) the gospel according to the power of God, 9who saved us, called us with a holy calling, not according to (anything we accomplished) but according to His grace and purpose, which was given (to) us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10And is now made manifest by the appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, [revealed] life and immortality through the gospel, (Good News), 11to which I'm appointed a preacher, an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles.
12Which is also the reason I suffered these things; however, I'm not ashamed; (because) I know who I believe and I'm persuaded that He's able to keep that which I've committed to Him [until the day of my redemption]. 13(Firmly grasp) the (style; pattern) of sound words (1 Tim.6:3), which you've heard, in faith and LOVE which is in Christ Jesus. 14That good thing which was committed to you and (kept) by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 15As you know all those in Asia turned away from me, Phygellus (who deserted Paul in his hour of need) and Hermogenes (Asian Christian who deserted Paul at Ephesus). 16The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; [because he often ministered] to me [over coming fears for his own personal safety] visited me in prison. 17(And) when he was in Rome he sought me out very diligently and found me. 18(So) may the Lord grant to Onesiphorus that he find mercy of the Lord in the day (of judgment) and in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus, [I cannot tell you].
21Therefore, you, my son, be strong in the grace that [comes from] Christ Jesus. 2And the things you've heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, trust to believing men, who will be able to teach others. 3(So) you endure [hardship; afflictions] as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4No man [while engaged in warfare] entangles himself with the affairs (transactions; negotiations; trade; business; busy; occupy) of this life, so he will please him who has chosen him to be a soldier. 5And if a man also [contend in battle] he is without a (honor) unless he (contends) lawfully. 6The farmer that laborers (is wearied; fatigued; withstood troubles and pain) must be first partaker of the fruits (honors). 7Consider (think on) what I say and the Lord give you understanding in all things. 8Remember that Jesus Christ is the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to the gospel, 9for which I suffer trouble, as though I were an evil doer, even [to my imprisonment] but the word of God is not bound (nor imprisoned). 10(So) I endure all things for the sake of all God's elect that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11It's a faithful saying: For if we be dead with Him, we will also Live with Him, 12if we suffer we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him He will also deny us: 13if we don't believe, yet He remains faithful: He can't deny Himself. 14Of these things put them to memory, charging before the Lord that they strive (contend) not about words to no profit, but (rather strive and contend) only to subvert the hearers. 15Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman without reason for shame, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16(And) shun (polluted) and (empty words; rambling on); for they'll increase into more ungodliness. 17And their word will eat as does gangrene (or cancer)(like those of) Hymenaeus and Philetus (who denied the faith), 18(And) who, concerning the truth, have erred, saying that the resurrection is already past and over throw the faith of some.
19(Anyway) the foundation of God stand sure, having this seal, "The Lord knows them that are His"; and let everyone that (proclaims) the name of Christ depart from (lawlessness and un-rightness). 20In a great house their are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and earth; and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21(So) a man [separate] himself from (vessels of dishonor) he will be a vessel to honor, sanctify and fit for the master's use and prepared to every good work. 22Also flee youthful lusts (passions)(and) follow [justification by faith and fairness of character and actions], faith, love and peace with them that call [Him} Lord out of a pure HEART. 23Avoid foolish and (ignorant) unlearned questions realizing they breed (discord; conflict; rivalry; competition; contention for superiority); 24and the servant of the Lord MUST NOT strive, but be gentle to all, [ready] to teach, patient, 25instructing in [unassuming; subservients] those that oppose Him, if God, perhaps, will give them repentance to the knowledge of the truth, 26and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil who (were) taken captive by (satan) at (God's will? Man's own willfullness?).
31Know this also that in the last days perilous times will come. 2(As) men will be lovers of their ownselves, [lovers of money, greedy], (those who swagger), proud and [haughty][railers], disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy (without God), 3without natural affection, [refusing treaties; irreconcilable], falsely accusing, [without self-control], [with no mercy] despising those that are good, 4traitors (betrayers), [foolishly headstrong], [prideful], lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; 5having (the outer appearance) of godliness but denying the power of it (the Holy Spirit and/or Jesus Christ), from such turn away (avoid). 6Because it is this sort that creep (sneak) into houses and lead [into bondage; make prisoners of] silly (intellectually weak; lack good sense; unwise; childish) women [heaped up] with sins, (leading them away using their own sinful lusts to do it), 7ever (seeking and searching)(trying to) learn (from the wrong teachers) and so unable to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8As Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth, men of corrupt minds, reprobate (beyond redemption, wholly given over to sin) concerning the faith. 9(And) they will proceed no further; (because) their (senselessness; foolishness) will be (revealed) to all men (just as)(Jannes and Jambres) was, 10but you have fully known my doctrine, my way of life, (divine) purpose, faith, [brave patience], lvoe, (power to wait calmly), 11(as well as the) persecutions (and) afflictions which came to me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, what persecutions I endured; out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12Yes, all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13(Because) evil men and seducers will become worse and worse deceiving and being deceived. 14However, you continue in the things which you've learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you've learned them, 15and that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God an is (beneficial; useful) for teaching, [convicting][setting right] and for instruction in (impartiality of character and action; justification by faith; rightness), 17that the man of God may be [complete] thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
41So I [commit to your keeping] before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2Preach (teach) the Word; be diligent [when convenient], [or opportune]; convict, rebuke (argue; appeal; urge; advise), with doctrine and all [patience under abuse, threats, offense]. 3(Because) the time will come when they won't endure sound doctrine but (follow) after their own lusts; they will [invite] to themselves teachers [of massive doctrines and beliefs (that delight their own senses); 4they will turn away and no longer hear the truth and (so) will (follow lies, fakes, deceivers). 5But you (be watchful) in all things and endure [hardship], do the work of the (traveling minister) perform your ministry to the fullest. 6I am ready to (meet my Lord) and the time of my departure is at hand. (2 Peter 1:14). 7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course and kept the faith; 8(From here on) there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge, will give me (on) that day; and not just to me but to all those who LOVE His appearing. 9Earnestly endeavour to come to me shortly; 10(As) Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia, 11leaving only Luke with me. Take Mark and bring him with you; for he is (such) (a benefit) to me and the ministry. 12And I've sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, bring it with you when you come, and the books but especially the parchments.
14Alexander, the coppersmith, did much evil to me; the Lord reward him according to his works, 15of whom you should beware also; because he's greatly stood against our words. 16At my first defense no man stood with me, they all (abandoned) me; I pray God that it won't be laid to their charge. 17(In spite of that) the Lord stood with me and gave me strength, (so that through) me the (Word of God) might be fully known and that all the Gentiles might hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion (satan). 18And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and will preserve me to His heavenly kingdom, to whome be glory forever and ever. Amen.
19(Say hello to) Prisca and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus. 20Erastus abode at Corinth; but Trophimus I have left at Miletus, (he was) sick. 21Earnestly endeavour to come before winter. Eubulus, (sends) greetings, (as does) Pudens, Linus, Claudia and all the brethren. 22The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace to you. Amen.
1st Timothy
